Justice for Black Girls is proud to present “An Ode to Black Girlhood.” This short film series is dedicated to Black girls who get lost in the beauty store after school, Black girls who spend hours in the braiding chair, Black girls who love to shake their beads, lay their edges and rock gold hoops. This is for Black girls who love J’s paired with ruffle socks. These short films are dedicated to honoring the spaces we occupy spaces like only we can.

Work centering Black girls cannot just be about responding to our trauma and death. Work centering Black girls must honor the fullness of Black girlhood, it must honor Black girl joy, creativity and liberation. Through this creative process, Justice for Black Girl Ambassadors are able to innovate and actualize liberated realities. Through this 3 part film project we center the narratives of Black girls and archive their experiences in real time. This project is about creating art dedicated to Black girls while shifting conditions and cultural narratives.

We honor every Black girl who touched this process, and every Black girl who will be touched by this project
